A Call to Serve

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a lay Catholic organization founded in France in 1833.  It was established to provide aid to the poor.  The Society, as organized at the parish level, is known as a “conference.”  The St. Katharine Drexel Conference serves Sugar Grove, Big Rock, Hinckley, and nearby areas in Kane and DeKalb Counties in Illinois.  At the core of our work are person-to-person visits with neighbors needing assistance.  We offer financial support, and bring them hope and encouragement.

Membership in the St. Katharine Drexel Conference is open to anyone.  Although our members are drawn from St. Katharine Drexel parish, people of other Christian denominations and other faiths are welcome, if they share the spirit of the Society and sincerely accept its principles.

Our conference meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic church, 8S055 Dugan Road in Sugar Grove. A typical meeting involves an opening and closing prayer, a spiritual reading, and confidential discussions about friends-in-need that we recently visited.  Decisions regarding assistance are made at these bi-monthly meetings.

If you are interested in the Society and want to learn more, you may join us at one of our future meetings.  You may also call us for more information at 630-466-8833.  One of our members would be happy to talk to you.
